But these pains and aches can be prevented by doing a proper workout before you begin to practice.</p>
<p>There can be confusion about what to select for a warm up. Most people consider stretching as the best option to improve overall flexibility and prevent injuries but a recent research showed that stretches are not much effective for runners and in fact they are harmful for them.</p>
<p>You can’t believe these researches much as they don’t consider all types of stretching exercises in their research. Most of the stretching types that is being considered in these researches is static stretching. In static stretches, the body is kept hold in a fix position for some time and then with static force, muscles are stretched producing a process known as autogenic inhibition. This process causes receptors in the muscle and sends signal to nervous system. When there is a stretch during running, and the nervous system sends a signal towards the muscles to prevent contradiction, you can easily prevent injuries.</p>
<p>Static stretching increases the flexibility of the muscles but also make them weak by temporarily shutting down the muscles, hence it may hamper your practice, because you need the proper functioning of muscles to perform better. The shutdown of muscles produces strain and fatigue for muscles.</p>
<p>Warming up is very important for your muscles as you need fresh blood, nutrients and oxygen to boost your performance. Instead of doing static stretches do dynamic stretches which don’t focus on a particular muscle. Dynamic stretching produces a reciprocal inhibition effect in the muscles, in this effect when one muscle shuts down the other muscle is relaxed by the nervous system and thus it does not create problem in your practice.</p>
<p>Studies and researches should be done separately for static and dynamic stretching. Only dynamic stretching can help you improving your performance for sprinting. It will reduce the occurrence of sprains and strains on the muscles.</p>
<p>So warm-up is very important for improving the performance of your muscles for running, but only when followed correctly. You just read how wrong selection can be harmful for your muscles and correct selection can improve your performance. So, if you are a runner, start searching and doing dynamic stretches for best performance.</p>
